February's American Girl - Meet Felicity Merriman 1774

Felicity Merriman is a spunky, spritely girl growing up in Virginia in 1774, just before the Revolutionary War. Felicity grows impatient doing the "sitting-down kinds of things" that colonial girls are expected to do. She much prefers to be outdoors, especially riding horses! Felicity learns about loyalty and responsibility - to her family, her friends, and her country - and what it means to be truly independent.

For those who wanted to purchase the books, we wanted to let you know about a compilation we found (including the charming illustrations) on Amazon for a great price.  Here's a link

We are looking forward to seeing all of you again on February 23rd at 6:30 p.m.!

Welcome to a New Year of Liberty Girls!

We are excited to get started with the Liberty Girls Book Club. This year we get to learn about some really inspiring and courageous girls from our nation's history!  Each month we will read on our own and then meet together to celebrate each girl character with food, crafts and games from her time period.  Can't wait to see you at our next meeting!

Meet January's American Girl - Kaya

Kaya dreams of racing her beautiful mare Steps High.  Her father warns her that the horse isn't ready, but when a pesky boy insults Steps High, Kaya accepts his challenge to race.  As they ride, Kaya loses track of her little brothers. She was supposed to be watching them!  Her carelessness earns her a nickname that her friends won't let her forget...

You can find Kaya's books at your local library or you can find them on Amazon.com (we found them for a penny each plus $3.99 shipping and handling fee).

Read as much as you can this month and then we'll meet on Thursday, January 26th at 6 pm to talk about what we read, play games, do crafts and eat food from Kaya's time!  See you soon!
